The Story
Africa is the cradle of humanity, where it all began.
This primal energy is one reasons Mariella and Sandra,
the founders of Acacia have been drawn to this continent for many years.
For a long time, they yearned for a more profound connection with nature and
the wilderness. Both Mariella and Sandra, through their individual journeys,
went in search of something that could fill this longing for something greater and deeper.
This is how they each found their way to Africa.
Mariella
Mariella moved to South Africa in 2012, where she met her South African partner. She became deeply enthralled with this part of the world, which inspired her to travel extensively around the continent.
Currently based in both Mexico City and USA, she has always been deeply interested in sustainable practices, environmental studies and conscious travel.
Sandra
In recent years, Sandra made South Africa her permanent home and now lives in Cape Town with her South African partner. She is always traveling to remote regions of Africa, celebrating communities and indigenous practices than honor and respect the natural world. When she is not exploring and discovering lodges, she is passionately absorbed in studying African culture and history.
The Story
Initially brought together by their African partners, Sandra and Mariella soon realized they had much more in common as their immersion in this continent profoundly transformed their lives.

During one of their African journeys, after a long day spent tracking an Aardwolf, they rested under an Acacia tree. They began to admire its beauty and its striking shape, taking in the untamed wilderness around them. This iconic tree throughout the savanna known for its ability to adapt to various circumstances, showcasing resilience and majesty, inspired them to reflect more profoundly on their lives and their relationship to nature. Discussing the inexplicable energy and emotions that is felt in the wilds of Africa, and the powerful interconnectedness between humans, nature, and primitive intuition. They expressed their hope of sharing these feelings with others.
That was how Acacia Travel was born.
They embarked on a journey to create a travel agency that would serve as a gateway to a person’s inner wild. One that would allow people to travel to places in Africa, but most importantly, within oneself. Respecting what was already there, its nature, its people, its history. They soon vowed, to make a pledge to the earth.
